CFP for sessions sponsored by the Society for Study of Early Modern Women (SSEMW)

Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (ACMRS) and Medieval Association of the Pacific (MAP) Joint Conference, “Magic, Religion, and Science in the Global Middle Ages and Renaissance”

This panel proposes to bring together scholars from a variety of disciplines to re-envision the role of women who paved new pathways in early modern studies, broadly construed. Topics may include not only seminal figures in literature, culture, religion, and science of the medieval through early modern periods, but also authors, artists, innovators, and scholars who have advanced the study of the premodern era in the ensuing centuries by developing a more inclusive, more diverse future for the field. Topics may range from flagship literary and artistic works; receipt (recipe) books; mystical, scientific, or musical compositions and their creators; and important figures of the early modern era from any global culture, to women who broke new ground in the exploration of our shared history to imagine and create a more diverse historical narrative and a more inclusive future, such as Belle de Costa Greene, Simone de Beauvoir, Maryse Condé, and Geraldine Heng.
