On November 30 2023, Het Noordbrabants Museum will host a symposium titled Women and the Visual Arts in the Early Modern Low Countries in conjunction with the exhibition Brueghel: The Family Reunion. This full-day event assembles a distinguished group of international scholars to present their latest research on early modern women as creators, patrons, curators, consumers, and viewers of artworks. The symposium will be open to the public, with entrance to the exhibition included in the ticket price.

We’ll start the day with coffee and a Welcome by Jacqueline Grandjean, Director of Het Noordbrabants Museum, followed by an introduction to the Brueghel: The Family Reunion exhibition by curator Nadia Groeneveld-Baadj. The symposium is divided into three panels that explore a variety of themes around women and the arts, including creative activity, business, community leadership, science, and global trade. During lunch there is time to visit the exhibition, and the event will wrap up with a Q & A session, closing remarks by Sarah Moran, and a reception with drinks and snacks.
