Papers are invited for a session dedicated to Early Modern Women Artists at the Midwest Art History Society conference in Denver, Colorado from April 3-5, 2025. Reconstructing early modern women artists continues to be a fruitful area of investigation for scholars, as evidenced by the Illuminating Women Artists book series (Getty Publications) and the exhibition Making Her Mark: A History of Women Artists in Europe, 1400-1800 (Baltimore Museum of Art, 10/01/23-01/07/24). This session aims to continue this important work while also questioning the broader implications of the “discovery” of women makers for our wider understanding of historical constructions of gender, creativity, and the concept of “art.”
Proposals for 20-minute papers should be sent to Jessica Weiss (jweiss16@msudenver.edu) by November 22nd and should include the author’s name, affiliation (if applicable, independent scholars welcome!), contact information, the paper title, and a brief abstract.
