Traditionnellement la femme au pouvoir est souvent associée à une représentation négative voire maléfique (Catherine de Médicis, Margaret Thatcher, Lady Macbeth …)
Clichés ou réalité effective, l’image de la femme puissante est souvent liée à la perfidie, la manipulation, la violence, suggérant un imaginaire marqué par une certaine peur de la femme au pouvoir.
La journée d’étude se propose d’examiner l’articulation entre femmes et pouvoir, centrée sur les représentations négatives. Comment la littérature, l’histoire, le cinéma, les arts montrent-ils la femme puissante et à quelles fins ? Quelles influences morales, sociales et politiques se devinent dans la production et la réception de ces images selon les époques ?

The Dark Side of the Force: Negative Representations of Women in Power
Catherine de Medicis, Margeret Thatcher, Lady Macbeth: traditionally women in power are often represented as negative or even evil forces. Whether cliché or reality, images of women in power are often linked to treachery, manipulation or violence, suggesting an imaginary marked by fear of powerful women.
This day-long conference aims to examine the articulation between women and power, focusing on negative representations of powerful women. How are powerful women represented in literature, history, cinema, television and the visual arts, and to what ends? What influences (moral, social, political, etc.) can be brought to light in the production and reception of these representations, depending on the era concerned?
We welcome proposals in the following disciplines: literature, history, cinema, television, visual arts, art history.
