This
\ninternational conference will bring together scholars interested in exploring
\nhow we “source” emotions of the medieval and early modern period, whether by
\nperforming, acting, hearing, finding, or reading within the varied disciplines
\ninterested in this period.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>
<\/div>\n
<\/span>Abstracts are welcome on such questions
\nas:<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/span>Where we look for emotions in the extant sources<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>How we ‘read’ across multiple source types to create a composite
\nunderstanding of the emotions of a particular time period<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>How we translate source information into practice in the performing arts<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>Gendered nature of sources and gendered nature of emotions<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>Sources, emotions and power: what are sources for understanding emotions in
\ncross-cultural encounters’ What do we have to take into account when
\ninterpreting them’<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>Material objects as sources for the study of emotions<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>Does the study of emotions make us to rethink our sources’ If so, in what
\nways’<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span><\/strong>
<\/div>\n
<\/span>Papers will be streamed according to the
\nCentre’s four Research Programs:<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/span>
<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/strong>MEANINGS<\/span><\/a> studies the changing understandings and
\ncategorisation of emotions over the period 1100-1800 in Europe.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>CHANGE<\/span><\/a> investigates the drivers of changes in societal
\nemotional regimes, and the power of collective emotions to produce major
\ncultural, social, political and economic change.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>PERFORMANCE<\/span><\/a> interrogates how emotions were performed and
\nexpressed in pre-modern dramatic, literary, artistic and musical
\nperformances.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>SHAPING THE MODERN<\/span><\/a> explores Europe’s legacy of emotional
\nunderstandings and practices in Australia today, and the many ways in which
\nmodern Australians engage with and re-interpret Australia’s emotional
\nheritage<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>
<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/span>Proposals:<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/span>
<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/strong>Proposals for individual research papers of 20
\nminutes; panels of three x 20 minute papers, and symposia or workshops for the
\nperforming arts of 90 minutes, are welcome from scholars and practitioners of
\nany discipline.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>
<\/div>\n
<\/span>Proposals for individual papers must provide a title and
\na 300-word maximum abstract. Proposals for panels, symposia and workshops
\nshould provide an over-arching title and a 300-word (maximum) abstract for the
\ntheme, as well as individual titles and abstracts for each paper within the
\nsession.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>

<\/span>All proposals must provide the name of presenter\/s
\nalong with contact and affiliation details; a short biography for each
\npresenter; identify multimedia or other needs; and name the Centre Program for
\nwhich the paper is intended.<\/span><\/div>\n
