Pianiste interpr\u00e8te et improvisatrice, elle exerce son grand talent dans les salons, notamment ceux de Madame de Sta\u00ebl (1766-1817) o\u00f9 elle suscite l&#8217;admiration. Elle aime entendre l&#8217;op\u00e9ra italien et joue ses contemporains Mozart et Haydn. Elle fait d\u00e9couvrir l&#8217;\u0153uvre de Bach pour clavier qu&#8217;elle interpr\u00e8te en virtuose sur piano-forte. La p\u00e9riode r\u00e9volutionnaire est trouble du point de vue de sa biographie. Il est cependant fort probable qu&#8217;elle fr\u00e9quente quelques esprits \u00e9clair\u00e9s et protecteurs, la famille du fermier g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Lavoisier par exemple ou Bernard Sarrette, fondateur du tout r\u00e9cent Conservatoire de Paris, qui la nomme professeur en 1795. Elle devient ainsi la premi\u00e8re femme \u00e0 enseigner la musique dans un \u00e9tablissement de la R\u00e9publique devant une classe exclusivement masculine! On la dit alors \u00ab Femme libre \u00bb qui adopte les valeurs d&#8217;une r\u00e9elle modernit\u00e9. Elle compose beaucoup, associant un art savant \u00e0 une expression pr\u00e9romantique qui fait penser d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 Schumann et m\u00eame \u00e0 Chopin. Elle poursuit durant de longues ann\u00e9es la r\u00e9daction de son Cours complet et pratique du pianoforte publi\u00e9 en 1810. En 1834 elle gagne la Toscane pour y soigner sa tuberculose.
