In 1333 at Toulon, Louison Amilhau, a young girl of high status, interpreted the role of the Virgin in the mystery play La Nativité de Notre-Dame et de l'Enfance de Jésus (The Nativity of our Lady and the Infancy of Jesus). She is the earliest documented female amateur actress (in France).
